The only difference between the portable version and regular version1 of WP Descriptive Name Explorer (WPDName) is that the portable version is designed to run from a portable usb drive (flash drive, memory stick, etc.,). The portable version:
| • | Contains only the zipped executable (.exe file), a few ancillary files, and a help file (no automatic setup); and |
| • | Saves user preferences as an .ini file in the folder that contains the exe file and assumes the user has read and write privileges for that folder. |
To install the portable version of WPDName, simply unzip WPDName 2.0 (Portable).zip to a folder of your choice on your portable drive.
| 1 | The regular version of WPDName follows Microsoft conventions for storing user preferences. Under Windows XP, the .ini file is stored in the user’s Documents and Settings folder, (e.g., C:\Documents and Settings\<your user account name>\Application Data\Knowis\WPDName\WPDName.ini). Under Windows Vista and Windows 7, you can find the .ini file under C:\Users\<your user account name>\AppData\Roaming\Knowis\WPDName\. |
